Dnešní Fotostory nahlédne za oponu sportovního jeviště, jednoho z mála míst, kde mohou být Kubánci zcela svobodní. Na stadionech neexistuje politika ani dvojí metr. Modří (Los Azules) bojují nejen se soupeři, ale také s havanským blues. Česko sdílí s Kubou kromě lásky ke sportu i trpkou historii. Představujeme Alfreda Betancourta a jeho Havana Blues.

‚V roce 1999 jsem strávil celou sezónu s baseballovým týmem mého srdce, havanskými Industriales. Každý den jsem fotil, nikoliv hru, protože existují záznamy televizního vysílání, ale to, co se děje na stadionu, jenž je jedním z mála míst na Kubě, kde jsou Kubánci prostí politiky a chovají se spontánně. Na stadiónech je zvláštní, typická atmosféra, kterou jsem doufám zachytil svým objektivem, a teď ji s vámi sdílím.‘

Los Azules de la Habana
‚En el año 1999 me pasé la temporada entera siguiendo a mi equipo de beisból del corazón, Los Industriales de La Habana. Tomé fotos cada dia, no de el juego, que para eso quedarán las grabaciones de las transmiciones televisivas, sino de lo que ocurre en el estadio, uno de esos pocos lugares en Cuba donde los cubanos son libres de la política y actúan espontáneamente tal cual son, es un ambiente peculiar, especial, que espero haber captado con mi lente y que comparto ahora con todos ustedes.‘

Havana´s Blues
‚In 1999 I spent the entire season following the baseball team of my heart, Industriales from Havana. I took pictures every day, not of the game, for there are recordings of TV broadcasts, but of what happens in the stadium, one of the few places in Cuba where Cubans are free from politics and act spontaneously as they are. In stadiums there is a peculiar, special atmosphere, which I hope to have captured through my lens and I share it with you now.‘

O autorovi
Alfredo Betancourt je grafik a dokumentární fotograf. Narodil se v roce 1966 v Havaně na Kubě a pobýval na mnoha různých místech jako Brazílie, Miami, Brusel, Štrasburk a Alicante. V současnosti žije i s rodinou ve francouzském Alsasku.
Během práce pro časopis „Revoluce a Kultura“ se seznámil s nejvýznamnějšími kubánskými fotografy té doby a po absolvování workshopu s Pablem Cabadem fotografování zcela propadl. Většina jeho fotografií byla na Kubě zakázaných, protože nepředstavovaly „kubánskou realitu“. Věděl, že nemůže publikovat, ale nepřestával doufat, že jednoho dne jeho fotky spatří světlo světa.
Nejraději zachycuje každodenní život. Fascinují ho skuteční Kubánci a jejich běžné osudy. Fotografování lidí s respektem a úctou je pro něj stále pozoruhodnou výzvou. Alfredo Betancourt je světoběžník, který miluje hory, nebojí se neznámého a důležitější než cíl je pro něj samotná cesta.

Alfredo Betancourt is a graphic designer and a documentary photographer. Born in 1966 in Havana, Cuba, he has lived in many different places such as Brazil, Miami, Brussels, Strasbourg and Alicante. He currently lives with his family in the Alsace region of France.
While working for the magazine „Revolution and Culture“ he met some of the most important Cuban photographers of that time and after attending the photography workshop with Pablo Cabado he felt he was born to do this. Most of his photographs were then banned in Cuba, because they did not represent „the Cuban reality.“ He knew he could not publish, but kept hoping that one day his photos see the light.
He prefers capturing everyday life and is fascinated by real Cubans and their ordinary lives. Shooting people with respect has been a remarkable challenge for him. Alfredo Betancourt is a world traveler who loves mountains, is not afraid of the unknown and believes the journey is more important than the goal.
